UnFrame was an augmented reality (AR) exhibition on the history of timberframing in the Northeastern part of North America. In this region, timber has been aprimary building material for millennia. The Hodinǫ̱hsǫ́:nih (Six Nations Iroquois)constructed semi-permanent domestic longhouses from the trunks, branches, and barkof several locally available tree species. The UnFrame exhibition presents differentperiods of timber construction through an interactive AR exhibition to reflect and initiateconversations on the present timber industries, and their utilization of varying timberspecies, from architectural scales to a select series of details. With a focus on theHodinǫ̱hsǫ́:nih longhouse, this research paper presents the materials, equipment andmethods necessary to construct the outdoor, public exhibition. The UnFrame exhibitionis intended to be an educational tool representing and communicating these varioustimber material histories.
