Features and Changes

Fologram 2024.X adds a number of major features and improvements in a simplified UI.

Overview

  • Removed requirement for local networks and firewall permissions to establish connections
    • Internet connection is required to establish sessions
    • Once established, sessions are peer-to-peer
  • Added support for remote connections (non-local-network)
  • Improved stability
  • Added cloud hosted (published) models
  • Improved precision in AR placement
  • Added native support for Rhino Mac
  • Added support for gaze and depth camera streaming
  • Removed support for HoloLens 1

Grasshopper

  • Added “Sync Geometry” component
    • Added support for creating and syncing Point Clouds, Text Dots, Text Entities
    • Added support for specifying Display Mode, Transform, Interactions and Material with parametric inputs
    • Added animated transitions between transform updates
    • Added display modes: Rendered, Shaded, Wireframe, Occluded, RenderedWireframe, ShadedWireframe, OccludedWireframe
  • Added “Get” components and “Event Trigger”
    • Added “Get Points” to stream 3D point clouds from from the HoloLens 2 and lidar enabled devices
    • Added support for eye gaze tracking from the HoloLens 2
  • Added Sync XR Parameters option to the Fologram dropdown
    • Parameters in device panel are sorted based on vertical position in the document
  • Depreciated “Track” components
    • For backwards compatibility, track scan also includes option to toggle between meshes and point clouds
    • For backwards compatibility, track interactors also returns eye gaze
  • Depreciated “Sync Object”, “Sync Material” and “Sync Text Tag” components
  • Depreciated Assign Transform, Assign Material
  • Removed Sync Parameters component
  • Removed support for tracking Aruco markers (due to improvements in QR tracking)

Rhino

  • Improved marker workflows. Define marker locations as points (text dots) with the XRMarker command
  • Connected users are rendered directly in the viewport

  • Native TextDot and Text support. Text dots are now fixed size.

  • Added per-document properties (display mode, interactivity)
  • Added per-object properties (display mode, interactivity, visualization, scale, texture resolution)

HoloLens 2

  • Simplified UI for opening and closing menu using near-touch interactions with a button on your palm
  • Simplified model positioning
  • Always-on QR tracking
    • Tap to connect - no need to launch Fologram first!
    • Support for high-precision placement using multiple markers
    • Support for detecting markers at any size
    • Improved QR code detection rates and accuracy
  • Removed settings panel
  • Removed model snapshots and viewer (use web dashboard)

Mobile / Tablet

  • Simplified model positioning
  • Simplified layers/parameters menu
  • Always-on QR tracking (see HL2 notes)
  • Removed camera / video button (use native device recording tools)
